About Bloom

Bloom is a non-commercial project about learning what coffee tastes like and finding some. It isn't a shop and it doesn't earn anything from what you buy.

Nobody pays us

There are no affiliate links on Bloom. We have no commercial relationship with any roaster listed here, none of them paid or asked to be included, and when you follow a link to buy something we receive nothing.

We never take your order or handle a payment. Every purchase happens on the roaster's own site, under their terms.

What we measure

Bloom uses Google Analytics. Beyond ordinary page views we record interaction events: which quiz answers get chosen, which flavors get clicked, which coffees get opened, and which shop links get followed — that last one including the coffee's name, its roaster and its price.

We record them to find out whether the thing actually works, which is to say whether people leave having found a coffee they wanted. There are no accounts and we never ask for your name or your email.

We won't tell you that makes it anonymous. Google Analytics keeps a randomly generated identifier in a cookie so it can recognise a returning browser, and gathers the usual technical context alongside it — device, browser, and an approximate location worked out from your IP address. We don't attempt to work out who you are. That is a limit on what we do with the data, not a claim about what gets collected.

The flavor wheel isn't ours

The Coffee Taster's Flavor Wheel was created by the Specialty Coffee Association with World Coffee Research, and is licensed CC BY-NC-ND 4.0. We use their taxonomy unchanged.

What Bloom isn't good at yet

Coffee descriptions come through in whatever language the roaster wrote, so you'll meet Japanese text. Some tasting notes don't map onto the wheel and stay grey. And because the catalog refreshes monthly, a coffee you find here may already be gone.
